A Novel Catheter Tracking Method Using Reversed Polarization

چکیده
INTRODUCTION: Accurate visualization of guidewires and catheters during a vascular intervention(1,2) procedure is critically important. With this aim, many tracking techniques have been developed. Automatic identification of the position of the catheter in passive tracking techniques(3) is difficult, but in active catheter tracking techniques(1,2,4), it is possible to obtain a catheter and background image simultaneously. However, the catheters need to be electrically connected to the scanner and this causes both RF safety problems and creates difficulties in device handling. Recently, Quick et.al.proposed wireless active catheter visualization(4) by using an inductively coupled RF (ICRF) coil; this can be classified as an intermediate method between active and passive techniques. The design is a good compromise that reduces the heating problems and decreases the handling issues. However, as in the passive tracking techniques, it is impossible to see both catheter and background images simultaneously. In our study, we propose a novel technique for catheter tracking using an inductively coupled RF coil that enables simultaneous acquisition of background and catheter images thus allowing real-time, color-coded display of the RF coil on the background image. Reverse circular polarization is used to obtain an image of ICRF. We also demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed method with an in-vivo animal experiment. A catheter tracking method using reverse polarization for MR-guided interventions.
To conduct interventional procedures in MRI, reliable visualization of interventional devices such as catheters is necessary. For this purpose, the use of inductively-coupled radio frequency (ICRF) coils has been proposed. Without a wired connection, the signal around the ICRF coil is amplified, enabling catheters to be visualized. The wireless connection allows easy handling of catheters, in s...

Extracting and tracking active objects are two major issues in surveillance and monitoring applications such as nuclear reactors, mine security, and traffic controllers. In this paper, a block-based similarity algorithm is proposed in order to detect and track objects in the successive frames. We define similarity and cost functions based on the features of the blocks, leading to less computati...

Abstract In this paper, we propose a new method for kernel based object tracking which tracks the complete non rigid object. Definition the union image blob and mapping it to a new representation which we named as potential pixels matrix are the main part of tracking algorithm. The union image blob is constructed by expanding the previous object region based on the histogram feature. The pote...

In this study, the reverse polarization method is implemented using transmit and receive arrays to improve the visibility of the interventional devices. Linearly polarized signal sources--inductively and receptively coupled radiofrequency coils--are used in the experimental setups to demonstrate the ability of the method to separate these sources from a forward polarized anatomy signal. Two dif...

Visualizing the movement of angiocatheters during endovascular interventions is typically accomplished using x-ray fluoroscopy. There are many potential advantages to developing magnetic resonance imaging-based approaches that will allow three-dimensional imaging of the tissue/vasculature interface while monitoring other physiologically-relevant criteria, without exposing the patient or clinici...
